FUSE MISSION
What is FUSE?
Born in late 2007, FUSE (the Forum for Undergraduate Science Education) marries blog, internet forum and wiki technology to create a comprehensive, one-stop destination for instructors, students and evaluators of undergraduate science education. FUSE is an evolving, user-built and user-supported site dedicated to facilitating communication, and knowledge transfer, between fellow science education professionals and enthusiasts.
FUSE relies heavily on its community of users -- to provide, edit and maintain content.
More than ninety percent of the content you find on FUSE is user generated and maintained.
If you find a link, image, section, page, paragraph, sentence, etc. that is missing or needs editing or updating, your fellow FUSE users (a.k.a FUSEers) encourage you to log in and share your editing/creating insights.
What isn't FUSE?
FUSE is not a static website.
FUSE is not (and will never be) a pay-for-service site.
FUSE does not (and never will) share any of your personal information (see Privacy Policy).
FUSE: A sum of its parts
FUSE is the marriage of ...
FUSE(blog) - where FUSEers can keep up to date with, and comment on, news and announcements from the FUSE admin team. RSS subscription also allows automatic notification of new blog posts.
FUSE(board) - where FUSEers can interact with each other and with FUSE administrators (ask questions, answer questions, share advice and experience, report problems, etc.).
FUSE(wiki) - the glue that holds it all together. This site maintains portals to each of the above components, as well as to the FUSE calendar, search engine, resources library, and more.
FUSEer HIGHLIGHTS
FUSE is continually evolving in order to meet the needs of its user community. Here are a few operational items that FUSEers have highlighted.
Editing and contributing content
Cooperation is the cornerstone of FUSE's success. Without contributions, peer editing and feedback from fellow FUSEers, the knowledge base we want to build will never grow to reach its full potential. Anyone can contribute. If you are new to the wiki concept or have questions or concerns about how to edit FUSE content or author new topics and pages, visit the online pbwikimanual, for a comprehensive wiki tutorial.
Communicating with fellow FUSEers
FUSE is all about sharing, collaboration and communication and features several ways to contact and notify fellow FUSEers.
1. Visit the FUSE Calendar to search for important notices or upcoming events in your area. Add new events or modify existing events. NOTE: See below for instructions for searching and adding meetings, conferences and symposia to FUSE.
2. Send an email to a fellow FUSEer. Users are encouraged, but not required, to provide an email address when he / she visits FUSE. FUSE admins encourage all users to set up a free PBWiki login account at my.pbwiki.com
3. Visit FUSE(board) to start a new topic, reply to another user's query, or to keep in the loop about what's going on at FUSE. FUSE(board) is an embedded discussion forum, powered by PHPBB freeware. NOTE: Users must register (free, simple and confidential) with PHPBB to begin using the FUSE(Board) forums.
4. Visit FUSE(blog) to keep up to date with the news at FUSE. FUSE(blog) is an embedded blog, with full functionality, including RSS subscription and more. Voice your opinion by adding comments to the blog posts.
Resolving content disputes
As it is with any collaborative project, disagreements will occur within FUSE. Before you are able to edit FUSE materials you must agree to abide by the FUSE Acceptable Usage Policy. All content disputes will be handled within and by the FUSE community. Anyone may edit content. Likewise, anyone may undo edits. If a content dispute occurs and cannot be resolved within the wiki itself, parties involved should take the issue to the FUSE(board) forums and allow the community to resolve the issue there.
FUSE admins reserve the right to remove any and all FUSEers found to be habitually violating Usage policies.
Keeping up with conferences and symposia
At FUSE, we would like to build an archive of past conferences and meetings on undergraduate science education, as well as a calendar of future meetings, symposia, etc. Please visit Symposia to browse/add meeting descriptions and details.
Managing copyrighted material
BEFORE POSTING OR EDITING ANY CONTENT IN THE FUSE ENVIRONMENT, RESEARCH THE COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS BINDING THAT CONTENT. IF THE CONTENT YOU WANT TO POST IS BOUND BY STRICT COPYRIGHT, LINK TO IT RATHER THAN POST IT.
All content hosted on FUSE is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 License.
FUSE POLICIES
FUSE is managed by Dr. Patricia Marsteller and the Emory College Center for Science Education at Emory University.
