Problem-Based Learning

Problem-based learning (PBL) is a type of active learning that is characterized by open-ended, challenging problems, students working in small groups, and facilitators that aid in learning.  PBL started as a method of instruction in medical schools and was later adapted to an entire curriculum by McMaster University in Canada.
